“This is so very badly needed to keep this sacred music alive. We need to keep the blues alive with these kinds of projects and teach the kids and try to bring the old and the young together.” Bluesman Willie King Blue M Productions is administered by the Foundation for Public Broadcasting in Mississippi (Foundation) and funded by corporations that share the same vision of fostering community economic development through cultural promotion. Blue M Productions fosters the creation of programs co-produced by Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) that can be exported to other states and internationally to advance the image of Mississippi and attract cultural tourism. The first two Blue M concert documentaries - Blues Divas and the soon to be broadcast Mississippi Bluesmen - were funded by Entergy Mississippi. Entergy’s corporate support helped financially secure the talents of the artists featured in these two projects and paid for the production costs incurred by Mississippi Public Broadcasting, thereby sparing the agency from paying these costs out of the state budget. All Blue M productions are shown on MPB television and are offered to public broadcasting stations across the country. The Foundation works to expand the offering of Blue M programs to commercial entities and if sold, the financial benefits are used by the Foundation to reimburse the original investment costs which are then invested in the next production for MPB. Any profits made from the productions are passed to MPB.
