BLUES DIVAS

Blues Divas is a two-hour compilation and an eight part, one-hour concert documentary series featuring some of the most soulful female performers in the world.   Denise LaSalle, Odetta, Mavis Staples, Irma Thomas, Bettye LaVette, Deborah Coleman, Anne Peeble and Renee Austin perform in concert with their own bands at Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  Oscar winning actor and Mississippi native Morgan Freeman hosts this documentary series. 

Blues Divas is a co-production of Blue M Productions, Mississippi Public Broadcasting and underwritten by Entergy Mississippi. The production is the initial project of a series that will preserve and export the culture of Mississippi. 

Blues Divas has premiered nationally on the Starz Entertainment Network.  The Denver-based company offers the two-hour program on its subscription service as well as Internet on Demand.  Blues Divas has received positive reviews in Variety, as well as blues magazines and Websites in Great Britain, Italy, and Poland.  The documentary has been featured in the Washington Post, shown at the Denver International Film Festival, and premiered commercially at the Washington, D.C. theaters of the American Film Institute.
