Mississippi Bluesmen

“I want to feel the blues, where it really comes from.”   Kako Saito    Tokyo, Japan.

“This is grassroots, you can feel it.  Some places you don’t feel it.  When you are here you can feel it.”        Willie Lynch       Pensacola, Florida

What Saito and Lynch are referring to is the blues, specifically the Delta blues.  Both made it a point to vacation in Clarksdale, Miss., to see where the legendary bluesman Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil and watch the performances of seven of Mississippi’s greatest bluesmen in the concert documentary series Mississippi Bluesmen.

Mississippi Bluesmen continues the partnership between Blue M Productions, Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB), Ground Zero Blues Club and Entergy to produce series that preserve and promote Mississippi’s own product of blues music to the world, while protecting and perpetuating this unique style of music that is born of the Delta.

Mississippi Bluesmen features the performances of Kenny Brown, Willie King, Bobby Rush, Big George Brock, Big Jack Johnson and James “Super Chikan” Johnson.  One highlight of the concert series was the closing Blues Jam of Pinetop Perkins, Honeyboy Edwards, Rush, Johnson, Brock and Calvin “Fuzz” Jones.  The ensemble performed Got My Mojo Workin’ to a standing ovation from a packed house.
